The Rubin Pillowcase

Our unique merchandise featuring traditional Himalayan art is made in India specifically for the Rubin. This pillowcase is made from 100% cotton fabric and silk thread. There are two color options—saffron and blue—and three symbol options:

Snow Lion: The white snow lion with a turquoise mane is the presiding local deity of Tibet and its national emblem. It auspiciously jumps from snow peak to snow peak. The lion represents the king of all beasts, and the lion's roar represents the supremacy of the Buddha's teachings.

Double Vajra: The vajra is an implement often used in tantric rituals. In Sanskrit, the word vajra means "the hard or mighty one." To Buddhists, the vajra symbolizes an impenetrable, indivisible, indestructible, imperishable, immovable, and immutable state of absolute reality.

Eight Petal Lotus Mandala: Often part of the ritual bell, the eight petal lotus mandala flows with Tibetan syllables. The petals symbolize the eight male bodhisattvas and the syllables symbolize the female bodhisattvas or female goddesses. Starting from the eastern front petal:

Male Petals — Female Offering Goddess
Kshitigarbha — Lasya = beauty
Maitreya — Pushpa = flowers
Akashagarba — Mala = garlands
Samantabhadra — Dhupa = incense
Avakijutesgvara — Gita = song
Manjugosha — Aloka = light
Vajrapani — Nritya = dance
Sarva-nivarana-vishkambhim — Gandha = perfume
